Scent as a Time Machine
One of my earliest scent memories is red cedar.
My father worked as a landscaper in San Antonio, and I would sometimes go with him on the job. When they cut into cedar, the air would shift immediately. The smell was warm, sharp, and grounding. It’s a scent that has stayed with me, returning across time.
That experience is a big part of why I started Barrio Pop Studio. I’ve always been drawn to how fragrance can hold onto moments, places, and people. What began as a personal connection has grown into a practice and a business centered on creating candles that feel meaningful, nostalgic, and rooted in culture.
Spring 2026 marks a new chapter. With a recent move into South Austin, Barrio Pop Studio is expanding through a season of in-person markets, new product releases, and deeper connection with our communities. This season includes new scented candles, fine art prints, and the introduction of merch for the first time.
Our candles remain at the heart of everything we do. Each scent is designed to bring warmth, comfort, and intention into your space. Alongside them, we’re releasing new fine art prints from my ongoing cyanotype series, along with merch that extends the visual identity of the studio into something you can wear and carry.
This spring, you can find Barrio Pop Studio across Austin through a series of markets and public programs. These events are a chance to experience the work in person, shop the collections, and connect with the community that continues to grow around the studio.
