SXSW Spring Edition 2026
Spring Wreath Cyanotype inaugurates the 2026 Year of Analog at Barrio Pop Studio. Released on March 15 during FreshAIR at SXSW, this edition marks the studio’s first cyanotype print and signals a renewed commitment to material process, tactile inquiry, and slow image making.
Created using a traditional sun-printing method, botanicals are placed directly onto sensitized paper and exposed to natural light. The resulting image is formed through contact and duration rather than digital manipulation. Light records absence. Time leaves its trace. The deep indigo field becomes an index of plant matter, season, and hand.
The circular wreath form gestures toward recurrence, protection, and seasonal transition. Produced at the threshold of spring, the composition reflects renewal without spectacle and invites sustained looking. Within the accelerated context of SXSW, the work operates as a counterpoint, foregrounding stillness, materiality, and presence.
